Dear members of the SPINS union,
Recently, some national players’ unions in Europe decided to support the class action lawsuit launched by the Dutch foundation “Justice for Players”. Now, SPINS is joining the movement. Here’s why this concerns you.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On 4 October 2024, the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) handed down a landmark ruling in the Lassana Diarra case: certain provisions of FIFA’s transfer regulations were deemed illegal, both for the past and for the future. The CJEU specifically ruled that ALL players who played in the EU or the UK between 2002 and today (regardless of their nationality) suffered harm as a result of these restrictive rules. WHY SPINS SUPPORTS THIS ACTION To defend your rights and help you obtain compensation for the damage suffered during your professional playing career.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU?

You can join this class action. If the action is successful, you will receive compensation. According to a study by the economic consultancy firm Compass Lexecon, FIFA’s transfer rules, which have been in place since 2002, have resulted in a loss of earnings of approximately 8% of all salaries received during your career (plus interest for late payment).

HOW IT WORKS?

  • Anonymous: FIFA, federations and clubs will not know that you are participating.
  • Registration is free.
  • Simple: just fill in an online form.

For more details about your participation, please visit the foundation’s website at: https://justiceforplayers.com/

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

All players and former players who have been under contract with a club in an EU Member State or the United Kingdom between 2002 and today, regardless of their nationality.
